Fernand Khnopff
Fernand Khnopff was born in 1858.

His works included oil-paintings,water-colours,cloured drawings and etchings.He also produced sculpture and desighed interiors and theatre scenery.He attended art school in Brussels and was introduced to the rudiments of Symbolism.In 1877,he visited Paris,where he was much impressed by the work of Moreau and Delacroix.

In 1883 he became a founder member of "Les XX". His work is characterized by elicit coloration and an aesthetic, reticent manner of painting, wrapping his subjects in idealized and generalized allegories. His female figures are inscrutable sphinxes and chimeras, strangely beautiful creatures of an icy eroticism.

He died in 1921.
