In 1903 he exhibited for the first time at the new Autumn Salon and in 1906 he taught at the Academy. In 1905 he travelled a lot  with Vuillard. He died in 1947.

Best known and most popular are Bonnard's paintings in the late Impressionist manner with delicate colours of porcelain-like translucence, including interors, potraits and female mudes as well as landscapes and steet scenes. Although a member of Nabis, Bonnard can't be classed as belonging to a specific school or group. As with many of his contemporaries,he was fascinated by Japanese art,and this interest comes out in his work.
